Honouring Our Predecessors - Recognising the Cost
Many soldiers report that there is often a sense of ‘bittersweet’ at the end of a battle. Sweet in that the land has now been won, but bitter as they count the cost in winning it. We feel something akin to this as we transition from this first part of the journey (moving in to Geir y Gwynt after all these years) to the second, that is the challenge of seeing the money come in.On the day of signing the lease, we felt the poignancy of having seen an incredibly wonderful thing happen but yet a very tender sense from the Lord as we shook hands and took a scrapbook picture. As we asked God about it, He reminded us that many have gone before us in ministry in Wales and that not all had made it unscathed. There have been relationship breakdowns, broken marriages, debt—and more—and that the road we walk on, this road of blessing, has been won only at a cost, and for some, a great cost. Therefore, we want to ensure that we make it clear that we who currently make up YWAM’s missionaries rightly honour those who have gone before. Their sacrifice, their willingness to dig in and battle and their sheer hard work have contributed in enormous measure to the joy that Geir y Gwynt will release into others.
